Everybody said that Charlie had no chance of winning. Charlie wasn’t quite the right breed to win a serious horse race they said. Charlie wasn’t quite big enough to compete with the bigger horses they said. Charlie simply hadn’t been expensive enough to win the important races they said. Charlie was not really a pure thoroughbred horse they said. They came up with so many reasons why Charlie was not good enough to win or even to compete in the horse races.
Charlie however had a few loyal friends who felt differently. His owner and the small team that helped train Charlie for horse racing believed that he could do it. They had seen a special something in Charlie whenever he got onto the race track. It was like he became a different horse and they knew that with the right training and enough care and love Charlie would be able to make it up there with the other horses and surprise everyone.
Charlie felt lucky that he had had this opportunity. He knew that he wasn’t the best looking or the strongest looking horse and he didn’t live in the biggest stables in the nicest part of the country but he knew that he had a family that looked after him whole heartedly and were completely committed to helping him achieve his best. For this Charlie like to count his blessings and it made him want to do whatever he could to make his family proud. Perhaps this was what helped Charlie to excel every time he got onto the racecourse and over time Charlie began to surprise everyone, especially those who had said he’d never make it!
